Make Cancer Easier Afternoon Tea
A free afternoon tea to help those affected by cancer navigate the support services available in the Queenstown Lakes District.
This afternoon tea is suitable for those with a cancer diagnosis, family members of those with cancer and anyone wanting to familiarise themselves with the medical landscape.
A free event
The Make Cancer Easer afternoon tea is on:
- Wednesday 26 February - 2.30pm to 4.00pm
- Queenstown Events Centre function room
What's happening?
You'll hear talks and see information from important service providers in the cancer health space.
Cancer Society- cancer navigation and many other services
Central Otago Lymphatics - many who have had cancer treatment will suffer from a condition called lymphedema which a particular method of massage helps and this business also has a full range of compression tools that help.
My Reflection - they make custom created breast prostheses-extremely accurate as they use a laser to measure and are really comfortable to wear.
Remarkables Cancer Gym - they offer a 12 week FREE cancer recovery exercise programme through the Events Centre.
Pinc and Steel Pilates and Physiotherapy - one on one cancer rehab!
Green Prescription - GPs can refer patients to Alpine Health and Fitness at the event's centre with a green prescription that enables them to get a discounted rate and have access to special sessions. This applies to cancer patients but to many other medical conditions as well.
Leisurelys programme - This is the award winning (national and local) seniors exercise programme run by Alpine Health and Fitness. A special rate and specifically designed classes and gym sessions. There is also a walking group that leaves from Frankton beach on a Thursday morning and walks around to the Hilton for coffee and a guest speaker/library session etc. No cost for the walk, everyone just buys their own coffee.
Look Good Feel Better - a charitable programme that teaches tips and tricks to women to keep looking good during and after cancer treatments
Cancer Psycho Social services - qualified help on the mental side of things
Financial Mentoring - it can be an expensive time and Nancy McMillan has skills to help people through
Health Coaching - medical centers now have health coaches/health improvement practitioners that back up the GPs with knowledge and practical solutions (we have QMC coming but would welcome your own if you wanted to send someone)
