What happens on the day?
We’ve designed a fun afternoon where parents get to take turns enjoying a physical activity alone and engaging with their kids, 30 minutes on and off:
GROUP 1 – 30 Minutes: Parent 1 stays with their kid(s) to enjoy mingling with new parents and social workers over kai. Parent 2 takes some time off to enjoy a structured physical activity with other parents (i.e. pickleball or gentle yoga stretch).
GROUP 2 – 30 Minutes: Parent 1 swaps to enjoy the physical activity with other parents, while parent 2 enjoys some socialising with their kids over kai.
Ideally two parents, or a trusting adult, who are comfortable spending half an hour caring for the child come to this activity. This might look like two dads, a mom and an aunt, a parent and a trusted friend, a parent and a grandparent or any other chosen whānau combination. We’ll provide the kai and toys for the little ones, but feel free to pack your favourite picnic and childrens’ toys! Single parents can come, too.
Why should you attend?
This programme is run in partnership with Te Whatu Ora - Southern and Central Lakes Family Services. There will be great information about how to access community groups and health services for new parents.
It's also a great way to meet parents with kids roughly the same age and continue to grow your network of support.
We hope to see you there and don't forget to register by emailing Samantha Saccomanno.
