Stanley Street/Ballarat Street intersection set to reopen

The Stanley Street/Ballarat Street intersection will reopen tomorrow, Thursday 24 April from 6.00am.

The road has been closed to allow stormwater upgrades to take place. The intersection work is now complete, on time.

Frankton Road at the intersection of Melbourne Street will fully reopen at the same time, providing two-way traffic for travellers directly into and out of the Town Centre via the Stanley Street/Ballarat Street intersection.

The reopening of the intersection will also see the Stanley Street Bus Hub back in action, and the return of off-street parking via Upper Ballarat Street and the newly established Stanley Street carpark.

Queenstown Lakes District Council Property & Infrastructure General Manager Tony Avery acknowledged locals and businesses in the area for their patience while this important work has been completed. 

“These works mark the final phase of the stage one arterial project. We know the extended period of disruption has been challenging and want to say a big thank you to everyone as we finish the last few tasks.”

Access to lower Ballarat Street remains closed until Friday 16 May while crews continue with the connection of the stormwater pipes into the new outfall structure at the Village Green. Coaches and tour operators will still exit via Athol St.
