Town Centre Arterial Road Project Update

Check out the latest update on the Town Centre Arterial Road project.

Update 3

Our crews have made steady progress this month. The new road is taking shape and every day we’re getting closer to finishing the project.

This month, we have successfully completed the final kerb pour on Frankton Road. We are progressing with excavating the existing surface and established levels to prepare for the new section of the arterial road from Beetham Street to Henry Street, whilst progressing with kerb, channel and footpath preparations.

Our structures team has reached a significant milestone by completing the installation of all panels on the upslope part of the Henry Street wall, as well as all anchors on the walls along the arterial road.

Here’s a closer look at the progress we’ve achieved this month.

Frankton Road

We’ve successfully poured the final kerb and begun the next stage to upgrade the footpath along the lake front side of Frankton Road.

We have completed all utility ducting and begun working on traffic signal and light pole foundations on Frankton Road.

Night works will be taking place at the end of the month to complete quality testing, connect the remaining three wastewater laterals and begin preparing the road for asphalting in spring. You can read more about this work at www.qldc.govt.nz/town-centre-arterial-road

Once this night work is complete, we’ll be finished with the underground work in this location. This is a big milestone for the project, marking the end of complex and significant underground service upgrades providing much needed resilience and capacity for our three water network and environmental benefits for Queenstown.

Suburb Street

We have installed a new light pole on the corner of upper Suburb Street and Frankton Road which is now live.

We will return in spring and complete the pedestrian crossing by installing pavers.

Melbourne Street

We’ll be installing irrigation on the southern side of Melbourne Street – this will be connected to the garden beds and one stormwater lateral in front of St Joesphs School.

We will continue to install channel drains, begin kerb preparations, pour light pole foundations and then we will focus on rebuilding the road in front of St Joseph’s school and church heading towards Henry Street.

We will return in spring to install street furniture, light poles, and begin the final landscaping along Melbourne Street.

Sydney Street

We’ve poured all the traffic pole foundations at the intersection and 3 out of 4 garden beds are complete.

Work is progressing to form the remaining footpaths, and we will return in spring to asphalt.

Beetham Street

The installation of precast panels for the Lower Beetham wall is complete.

We have begun installing the pedestrian staircase access from Melbourne Street to Beetham Street.

Henry Street/Malaghan Street/Ballarat Street

We have completed installing all panels on the upslope part of the Henry Street wall.

The structures team have successfully installed all anchors on the walls along the arterial road.

The gabion wall, which acts as a vehicle impact barrier above the new road has been installed, and the pedestrian ramp is taking shape, linking Ballarat Street to Henry Street.

Below groundwork to install the remaining power ducting will shortly begin on Henry Street.

Kerb, channel and footpath preparations are underway, and we have started excavating the existing surface and established levels to prepare for the new section of the arterial road linking Beetham Street to Henry Street.

We will soon start setting up the light pole foundations between Ballarat and Malaghan Street.
