On Friday 29 June 2012, Council decided not to adopt the recommendation made by the Representation review working party to disestablish the Arrowtown ward. Instead they voted for the status quo.

The decision means the district will continue to have three wards - Wakatipu, Wanaka and Arrowtown. 6 councillors will be elected in Wakatipu, 3 in Wanaka and 1 in Arrowtown.

Wanaka will also have a community board.

There were no appeals about this decision and the status quo remains.
